SEAI (the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland) runs the grants that pay part of the cost of making your home warmer and cheaper to run. This guide lays out every home energy grant available in 2026, how much each is worth, who qualifies, and the two routes to claim: individual grants or the One Stop Shop.
Every SEAI individual grant and amount (2026)
These are the maximum amounts. Insulation and heat pump grants vary by home type (detached, semi-detached, mid-terrace, apartment), so a detached house gets the top figure.
| Measure | Maximum grant |
|---|---|
| Attic insulation | €1,100–€2,000 |
| Cavity wall insulation | €700–€1,800 |
| Internal wall insulation (dry lining) | €1,500–€4,500 |
| External wall insulation | €3,000–€8,000 |
| Heat pump system | up to €12,500 |
| Heat pump technical assessment | €200 |
| Solar PV (electricity) | up to €1,800 |
| Solar thermal (hot water) | €1,200 |
| Windows | up to €4,000 |
| External doors | up to €1,600 |
| Heating controls | €700 |
For the full breakdown by house type, see our guides to attic insulation and wall insulation, the heat pump grant and the solar PV grant.
Who is eligible?
Eligibility depends on the measure, but the common rules are:
- Your home must be old enough. Insulation and heating-controls grants generally require a home built before 2011; heat pump and solar grants require one built and occupied before 2021.
- You need a valid MPRN (the number on your electricity bill).
- You must use an SEAI-registered contractor.
- You must apply and be approved before work begins.
How to apply (individual grant)
- Check the grant and your eligibility on SEAI.
- Apply online and wait for your grant approval email.
- Choose an SEAI-registered contractor and get the work done.
- Complete any required BER assessment after the works.
- Submit documents — SEAI pays the grant to you.
We walk through this in detail in How to apply for an SEAI grant.
Individual grants vs the One Stop Shop
There are two ways to upgrade with SEAI support:
- Individual grants — you tackle one measure at a time (say, attic insulation this year, solar next), manage the contractor yourself, and claim the grant back. Best for smaller, staged projects.
- One Stop Shop — a registered provider manages a whole-home deep retrofit (several measures together) aiming for at least a B energy rating. The grant is deducted from the price upfront, so you pay the balance. Best for a big one-off upgrade.
We compare them in One Stop Shop vs individual grants.
Fully funded upgrades (Warmer Homes)
If you own your home and receive certain welfare payments, the Warmer Homes Scheme can upgrade it for free — typically attic and wall insulation and other measures. It’s worth checking eligibility on SEAI before paying for anything.
