Editorial methods

Sources, calculations and corrections.

Irish Home Energy is edited by Samuel Mario Pop Achim. We publish independent explanations for households in Ireland. We are not SEAI, an installer, a BER assessor or an accredited energy comparison service.

Three different kinds of numbers

  • Official scheme figures: grant amounts and eligibility should be checked against the linked scheme page. The official offer and conditions govern an application.
  • Indicative prices: budget ranges are not quotes, official price lists or a representative survey of installers. They cannot establish the price for your home. Get comparable written quotes.
  • Worked examples: hypothetical households and rates illustrate a calculation. They are not customer case studies, measured results or current supplier offers.

How to check our work

Our tools expose their inputs and formulas. Change a price, consumption figure or self-use assumption to see whether the conclusion still holds. Sources are linked beside relevant guidance or below each article. SEAI is the source for its grant conditions; CRU and ESB Networks provide energy-market and metering information.

Dates show when a guide was edited. They do not guarantee that every external condition remains unchanged. We do not automatically refresh article dates simply because the site is rebuilt.

Editorial responsibility and AI

AI tools may assist with drafting, calculations, code and illustrations. The publisher remains responsible for what is published. AI-generated illustrations are labelled and are not evidence of a real home, installation, customer experience or technical assessment. We do not present hypothetical examples as first-hand testing.

Advertising and independence

The site is free to read and intends to use advertising. Google’s advertising and consent integration is configured; ad serving depends on approval, settings and privacy choices. We do not sell installations or collect quote requests through these pages. An advertisement, if enabled in future, must be labelled and is not an editorial endorsement.

Correction record · 9 October 2026

  • Updated our BER guides for the simplified A0–G scale used on certificates issued since 24 May 2026, and explained how older A1–G certificates (valid for 10 years) relate to it. The One Stop Shop target is now described as a post-works B.
  • Corrected the micro-generation tax exemption: up to €400 a year applies to each individual named on the electricity bill (not per household), for generation from 2022 to the end of 2028. Budget 2027 announced an increase to €600, which applies once enacted.
  • Removed an unsupported "5–8 year" solar payback claim and replaced it with a worked example consistent with our calculator.
  • Added the higher-rate individual grants available to homeowners on qualifying payments while they wait for the Warmer Homes Scheme.
  • Merged four pairs of overlapping guides into fuller ones; the old addresses redirect to the new pages.
  • Corrected publication dates that pre-dated the site's launch on 30 August 2026: each guide now shows the date it was first published here.

Correction record · 28 September 2026

  • Corrected the 2 kWp solar example: a €1,400 grant gives €3,600–€5,600 net on the illustrative €5,000–€7,000 range.
  • Corrected heat pump replacement wording: SEAI’s replacement route requires the existing heat pump not to have been previously grant-aided.
  • Clarified that smart metering and deemed export arrangements must be distinguished.
  • Added calculators with visible assumptions and a like-for-like quote checklist.
